Photography at Lincoln Speedway - Abbottstown, PA

As with any dirt track, I love to buy a pit pass. It is a bit more expensive than a general admission, but it is worth it.

The pit used to be in the infield, but was moved many years ago. The pits are now along the back stretch. They can be accessed on Kinneman Rd between Turns 1 & 2. You can purchase the pit pass and enter at the Kinneman gate and use the tunnel at the exit of Turn 4 to access the infield. There is a gate to access the pit area of the infield. You will then need to walk across the track to access the pits. There is a gate to pits on the right, just after the food stand at the Kinneman entrance. I did not see it open, but I did not explore it.

As with any track, pay attention to the movement of trucks and cars in the pits!

You cannot stand at the entrance or exit of the pits during track action. There are signs stating that you cannot be along the fence on the outside of the track, so you are limited to photographs from the infield.

Turns 1 & 2: This looks like a great area to photograph from. However, the fence is high. I saw many ladders that were against the fence. They looked like they were six-foot ladders. I may try that in the future.

The spectator section of the infield gives access to the fence on the insides of Turns 3 & 4. It is a low fence and allows for easy shooting. I prefer the entrance to Turn 3 as you get the cars starting to pitch it sideways as they enter the turn. There is one issue when shooting here, the sun goes down in the middle of Turn 3. There is a large tree that blocks the sun once it gets low.

Access to the other side of the fence is limited to those who are lucky enough to get a media pass. Based on what I saw, They got about ten feet closer to the action than I did.

I would say that Lincoln Speedway is a good photo-friendly track!
